Have AVG stopped supporting all these versions without notice? Looking at these versions below they were all last updated on 14 August. The issue is AVG have not uploaded any new Virus definitions since the 14 August 2018 This has nothing to do with user installations! Once you have uninstalled Avast, you could, of course, try performing an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data should Defender then still not update. That link also gives a way to perform a manual Defender update. You can manually update definitions as per my #2. 1 regularly updates Defender (I get the WU notifications).
